I know how you feel. I felt the same way my first year in Nantes (French people have their guards WAY UP and it’s hard to get through and become friends, especially with the language barrier!). But it gets better! If you’re in regular university classes this semester, it will be easier to meet French people in your classes and that’s how you make friends more quickly! Otherwise, have you gone to the English café (every Tuesday evening, 8pm at Fleming’s)? There you will meet French people who are REALLY excited to meet Canadians/Americans and they will practice their English on you and then let you practice your French on them. They are the sort of people who are quite friendly and enjoy talking to ‘foreigners’.
